Outreach Meeting - Approved
November 24, 2009
Time: 7:00 PM

1.  The regular meeting of the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council Outreach Committee was opened at 7:10 PM by Chair Jelena Csanyi.

  

 COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT- Jelena Csanyi, Robert Dager, Carol Lucas, Diana Dixon-Davis.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS ABSENT- Allen Glazer, Var Deirmenjian, Vernalie Deirmenjian.

STAKEHOLDER PRESENT- Saul Daniels, Clara Woll.

  Attending members constituted a quorum.

  

2.  MINUTES OF PAST MEETING:  The October 27, 2009 meeting minutes were approved as presented.

  

3.  STAKEHOLDER AND PUBLIC COMMENTS:  None.

  

4.  PAST EVENTS AND PREVIOUSLY APPROVED PROJECTS: 

a. Election Newsletter Article - The March 2, 2010 Election article for the North Valley newsletter was submitted.

b. Promotional Items - The 350 Flasher lights arrived; 250 were given out at the Metrolink Holiday Toy Train and the remaining lights will be handed out at the Holiday Parade and Fair.  The CNC Pocket Calendars were ordered but may not arrive by the December CNC Board meeting due to the delay in re-authorizing use of the credit card. 

c. Holiday Toy Train - It was a great success. The CNC "Be Safe, Be Seen" flasher lights were a big hit with attendees.  Candy, labeled with the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council stickers, was handed out.  Toys were collected at the CNC table.  Election information and CNC bookmarks were distributed to residents.   One full sheet of newsletter sign-ups was collected.

d. Holiday Parade and Fair - The use of a parade vehicle and driver has been arranged.  The application was completed and submitted.  The veterans have agreed to participate.

e. Advertisement and Printing - No advertisement will be placed in the North Valley paper and election mailers will not be distributed as the NC Election Consortium is placing a full page ad.

f. Santa Susana Mountain Park Association - The second training session for Santa Susana Mountain Pass State Historic Park was well attended and the attendees appreciated the support of the CNC,

      

  

•5.      ITEMS DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE MOTION:

  

a. To Request Up to $2000 for Chatsworth Neighborhood Council Support in Sponsorship by AIEAC for "The 10th Annual Valley Wide Children's Art Show."   

DISCUSSION - Request up to $2000 for sponsorship support by the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council for the 10th anniversary and 10th Annual Valley-wide Children's Art Show to be held March 21st , 2010 at the Chatsworth

Train Depot.  The $2000 cost is for a full page ad and canopied booth.

 

MOTION - To allocate up to $1000 for a half page ad in the AIEAC booklet and a canopied booth at the March 21st , 2010 event. 

M: Dager; S: Dixon-Davis; P: Unanimous.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

b. To Spend Up to $175 for an Outreach Tablecloth with CNC Logo. 

DISCUSSION - Allocate up to $175 for an Outreach tablecloth with the CNC logo, name, and website as shown on the banner.   

MOTION - To allocate up to $175 for an Outreach tablecloth with the CNC logo, name, and website.

M: Dager; S: Dixon-Davis; P: Unanimous.  MOTION CARRIED.

  

To Spend Up to $150 for Installing "Take a Bag - Leave a Bag" Dispenser   DISCUSSION -Allocate up to $150 for installation of bag dispenser at The Acre  for convenience of dog walkers to clean up dog waste.  CNC sponsorship would be displayed on a plaque attached to the dispenser post.  Dog walkers would be encouraged to bring extra bags to sustain the dispenser supply.                                                                                                  MOTION TABLED to 1/2010.                         

 

d. To Encourage Cooperation of Other CNC Committees in Contributing Funds Towards Speed Sign on DeSoto

DISCUSSION - The $15,000 cost of the speed sign on DeSoto near Rinaldi benefits Sierra Canyon school and Chatsworth.  Sierra Canyon, Greig Smith, and the CNC will evenly share the cost.  The Outreach Committee (Csanyi) suggests a friendly amendment to this motion whereby five CNC committees share the $5000 CNC portion evenly.   The recommended committees are: Outreach, Public Safety and Transportation, Beautification, Equestrian, and Enhancement.

MOTION - To contribute up to $1000 on Outreach Committee's share toward the purchase of the "YOUR SPEED IS" speed sign on DeSoto near Rinaldi.

M: Dixon-Davis; S: Dager; P: Unanimous.  MOTION CARRIED.

 

e. To Spend Up to $300 to Purchase GPS for Citizen Watch Trail Mapping in the SSMP Park.

DISCUSSION - Park Ranger, Lee Hawkins, does not have a GPS unit.  It would be a benefit for the ranger, docents, and community members to have access to GPS units for mapping and reporting specific locations as applicable.

MOTION WITHDRAWN. 

  

6.  COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS AND OTHER BUSINESS:

a.  Outreach staffing will be confirmed for the Holiday Parade and Fair.
